Jobs Americans Won’t Take: Arizona Recruits Teachers From Philippines to Recruit Teachers

American teachers can’t afford to teach because their salaries have stagnated even as the nation recovers from the Great Recession. In rural areas and towns like Casa Grande, Arizona, the teacher shortage is especially grim. So Casa Grande, like many American towns, recruited math and science and special education teachers from the Philippines to fill in the gap.

This is a story we wrote about an American experiment in education, and how it plays out  in a dusty town in the Arizona desert.
