Did David Duke endorse JD Hayworth in the race against McCain? If so, it's just another sign of Arizona's white supremacy problem.

Did David Duke endorse J.D. Hayworth in the Republican primary Senate race against McCain?

Recently, I wrote a story for The Daily Beast about Arizona’s white supremacy problem. In a nutshell, a white supremacist political party claims it donated to the SB 1070 legal defense fund (Brewer doesn’t \want the money but she still hasn’t found the contribution), an alleged Nazi is patrolling the desert for narcos, and a Pinal County sheriff named Paul Babeu who endorsed John McCain in the Republican primary mano-a-mano with JD Hayworth appeared on a conspiracy theorist talk show and then followed that up with a stint on a white supremacist talk show. Next, J.D. Hayworth called for McCain to distance himself from the Pinal County Sheriff. Here’s the story.

And here are two other stories that preceded mine.

First, Arizona Daily Star covered the initial mess.

Second, Incredible video of Babeu and Channel 12 Newsman Brahm Resnik:

The murder of rancher Robert Krentz in the Arizona borderalnds remains a mystery.

Robert Krentz was murdered on his ranch in March. The murder, widely blamed on a faceless immigrant with possible drug cartel ties, kickstarted the passage of SB 1070, acccording to many political insiders.

The assailant remains on the loose, but Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever says he’s close to finding the killer. In the meantime, there’s a dearth of information about the killing because records have been blacked out. The sheriff explains he doesn’t want the killer to know he’s on to him.

A Tucson newspaper has grim news, more immigrants dying crossing Arizona border.

Migrants crossing Arizona’s parched borderlands this month have been dying at an unusually high rate, The Arizona Daily Star’s Brady McCombs reports today.

“The fact that the deaths continue at such high numbers despite widespread indications that fewer people are crossing the border has led many experts to conclude that illegal border crossers face a deadlier trek than ever across Arizona’s desert,” McCombs writes.

It is hot in the desert.

Migrants who can’t keep up with groups are left to die.

If you haven’t seen the newspaper’s database on migrant crossing deaths, it is a worthwhile resource.

In Phoenix, with upcoming hearings on whether SB1070 should be enjoined, and heated primaries focused on illegal immigration, the “deadlier trek” is sometimes forgotten. Or the global forces that drive illegal immigration, which I write about in one chapter in my book.

I’m Arizona State Senator Sylvia Allen. I want to explain SB 1070 which I voted for and was just signed by Governor Jan Brewer. Rancher Rob Krantz was murdered by the drug cartel on his ranch a month ago. I participated in a senate hearing two weeks ago on the border violence, here is just some of the highlights from those who testified. The people who live within 60 to 80 miles of the Arizona/Mexico Border have for years been terrorized and have pleaded for help to stop the daily invasion of humans who cross their property . One Rancher testified that 300 to 1200 people a DAY come across his ranch vandalizing his property, stealing his vehicles and property, cutting down his fences, and leaving trash. In the last two years he has found 17 dead bodies and two Koran bibles.Another rancher testified that daily drugs are brought across his ranch in a military operation. A point man with a machine gun goes in front, 1/2 mile behind are the guards fully armed, 1/2 mile behind them are the drugs, behind the drugs 1/2 mile are more guards. These people are violent and they will kill anyone who gets in the way. This was not the only rancher we heard that day that talked about the drug trains. One man told of two illegals who came upon his property one shot in the back and the other in the arm by the drug runners who had forced them to carry the drugs and then shot them. Daily they listen to gun fire during the night it is not safe to leave his family alone on the ranch and they can’t leave the ranch for fear of nothing being left when they come back. The border patrol is not on the border. They have set up 60 miles away with check points that do nothing to stop the invasion. They are not allowed to use force in stopping anyone who is entering. They run around chasing them, if they get their hands on them then they can take them back across the border.Federal prisons have over 35% illegals and 20% of Arizona prisons are filled with illegals. In the last few years 80% of our law enforcement that have been killed or wounded have been by an illegal. The majority of people coming now are people we need to be worried about. The ranchers told us that they have seen a change in the people coming they are not just those who are looking for work and a better life. The Federal Government has refused for years to do anything to help the border states. We have been over run and once they are here we have the burden of funding state services that they use. Education cost have been over a billion dollars. The health care cost billions of dollars. Our State is broke, $3.5 billion deficit and we have many serious decisions to make. One is that we do not have the money to care for any who are not here legally. It has to stop. The border can be secured. We have the technology we have the ability to stop this invasion. We must know who is coming and they must come in an organized manner legally so that we can assimilate them into our population and protect the sovereignty of our country. We are a nation of laws. We have a responsibility to protect our citizens and to protect the integrity of our country and the government which we live under.I would give amnesty today to many, but here is the problem, we dare not do this until the Border is secure. It will do no good to forgive them because thousands will come behind them and we will be over run to the point that there will no longer be the United States of America but a North American Union of open borders. I ask you what form of government will we live under? How long will it be before we will be just like Mexico, Canada or any of the other Central American or South American countries? We have already lost our language, everything must be printed in Spanish also. We have already lost our history it is no longer taught in our schools. And we have lost our borders. The leftist media has distorted what SB 1070 will do. It is not going to set up a Nazi Germany. Are you kidding. The ACLU and the leftist courts will do everything to protect those who are here illegally, but it was an effort to try and stop illegal’s from setting up businesses, and employment, and receiving state services and give the ability to local law enforcement when there is probable cause like a traffic stop to determine if they are here legally. Federal law is very clear if you are here on a visa you must have your papers on you at all times. That is the law. In Arizona all you need to show you are a legal citizen is a driver license, MVD identification card, Native American Card, or a Military ID. This is what you need to vote, get a hunting license, etc.. So nothing new has been added to this law. No one is going to be stopped walking down the street etc… The Socialist who are in power in DC are angry because we dare try and do something and that something the Socialist wants us to do is just let them come. They want the “Transformation” to continue.Maybe it is too late to save America. Maybe we are not worthy of freedom anymore. But as an elected official I must try to do what I can to protect our Constitutional Republic. Living in America is not a right just because you can walk across the border. Being an American is a responsibility and it comes by respecting and upholding the Constitution the law of our land which says what you must do to be a citizen of this country. Freedom is not free.

Farmworkers to Americans: "Take our jobs!"

These days, you hear plenty of American citizens say that undocumented immigrants deprive Americans of jobs and drive down wages. The United Farmworkers of America, a group founded by César Chavez, now invites Americans to take the farmworkers jobs.

So far, a public relations rep for the farmworkers’ union told me, 4,000 people have signed up for the campaign.

Now it is up for the farmworkers to train the candidates to take their jobs and hook them up with the agricultural bosses who will hire them.

It is supposed to be a joke, and shed light on our agricultural industry’s reliance on the undocumented immigrant.

Stephen Colbert joined the campaign.

But like just about everything else highlighted on Comedy Central, this is a serious matter. It’s not clear, experts say, that there are Americans who will take the jobs that many undocumented immigrants fill. According to the Perryman Group, an economic and financial analysis firm in Texas, “the short-term negative impact of eliminating the undocumented workforce would include an estimated $651.5 billion in annual lost output (gross product) and 8.1 million in lost jobs.”

Many economists say that most Americans don’t share the same skill set and age demographic as most undocumented immigrants. They say Americans tend to be older and more skilled than many of the immigrants who cross into the country to work. So the immigrants fill a void that most Americans can’t fill, the experts say.

The Take Our Jobs Campaign might have started as a joke, but will it end up being a sort of amateur sociological study?

What if Americans really do want those farmworker jobs?

Arizona governor: Unauthorized immigrants "coming acrost" to extort, smuggle and kidnap.

At a recent televised Clean Elections debate of Republican gubernatorial primary candidates, Gov. Jan Brewer vowed that she’s done more than any other “governor has ever did” to come to the aid of the state.

A little later on, she said SB 1070 was a fine law that would protect the people of Arizona, regardless of a campaign by “media” and “certain organized organizations” that inferred it was a bad law.

A while later, she said she believed most undocumented immigrants didn’t come to work.

They came “acrost” the line to smuggle drugs , extort, kidnap.

“That is the truth. That is the truth,” she said.

It’s not the truth, according to the FBI and conservative sources.

You can see the whole debate here.

Brewer, as I’ve noted before, may not know the king’s English, but she knows how to win elections.

In 28 years, she has not lost a single one.

PINAL COUNTY SHERIFF IN MCCAIN AD HAS PROBLEMS BACKING UP CLAIMS OF “ILLEGAL ALIEN” VIOLENCE

On these pages, I’ve been honored to introduce you to the work of some of the top journalists in Arizona. Brady McCombs, a reporter for The Arizona Daily Star, is one such journalist. He’s been writing about immigration in Arizona for years, and he has a nose for lies and half truths.

McCombs recently questioned Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, who claims that crimes committed by undocumented immigrants are “off the charts.Babeu appeared in the recent \”dang fence\” ad for John McCain, who’s fighting a tough mano-a-mano in the Republican senate primary against J.D. Hayworth.

Babeu is an ally of Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and the boss of the Pinal County deputy who allegedly got grazed with the bullets of an Ak-47-type weapon by faceless Mexican drug traffickers with Sinaloan accents. Paul Rubin, another fine reporter, has called this shooting into question, as I noted in this post and this post. As you can see, Pinal County borders Maricopa County, which is the most populous county because it encompasses the Phoenix metro area.

Was the Pinal County shooting a hoax?

And are Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu’s numbers backing up the violence committed by “illegals” exaggerated?

Once again, you be the judge, after reading Brady McComb’s fine reportage.

At the very least you’ve got to wonder: What was John McCain thinking?

UPDATE: MCCOMBS POSTED AN UPDATE ON MAY 27.

The revised stats from the Pinal County Sheriff’s office appear to have changed.

ARIZONA’S CONTROVERSIAL IMMIGRATION LAW AFFECTS UNIVERSITY AND GRADE SCHOOL STUDENTS

The fallout from the passage of Arizona’s controversial immigration law, known as SB 1070, has been swift and immediate and continues to hammer the state. Among other things, the law could criminalize any resident who “harbors” people they know to be undocumented immigrants. (Like their parents.) It forces all police agencies in Arizona to enforce immigration laws, and if the cops don’t arrest people without papers they “reasonably suspect” to be undocumented immigrants to the satisfaction of Arizona residents, then the residents can sue the employers of the cops (cities, towns, counties) in state court, at taxpayer expense.

Cities, civil-rights groups, and labor unions have announced boycotts of the state, conventions have been cancelled, and even the Phoenix Suns basketball team has joined the fray, by condemning the law and wearing jerseys on a Mexican holiday that said “Los Suns,” which means “The Suns” in Spanish. Mexico has sent out a travel advisory, warning its citizens that if they travel to Arizona, they might get arrested if they don’t have their papers.

With all the macro noise, its sometimes hard to step back and look at the human beings affected by the law — like kids.

The little village of Arizpe, in Sonora, recently cancelled an exchange program with a school in Sierra Vista, Arizona. The reason: The Mexican travel advisory.

A couple of exchange programs between Mexican and Arizona universities have been cancelled.

AN ARIZONA IMMIGRATION HOAX? QUESTIONS ARISE OVER SHOOTING OF PINAL COUNTY SHERIFF DEPUTY

A week after Arizona’s governor signed the toughest immigration law in the nation, SB 1070, a Pinal County Sheriff’s deputy claimed he was shot with an AK-47 type weapon in an ambush with five drug traffickers. Bullets whizzed, he said. The ambushers disappeared, even after a massive search by Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s deputies and other law-enforcement groups, like the Border Patrol. The suspects: drug traffickers from Sinaloa, Mexico.

The deputy, Louie Puroll, was released from the hospital a few hours after he was admitted. He’d been grazed by either one or two bullets. He’s not talking to the press.

Now at least one journalist, and a very good one at that, is calling the shooting into question.

And here’s the latest update, from a rival newspaper, in response to the story questioning the shooting.

You be the judge.

On Friday, Gov. Jan Brewer is widely expected to sign this bill into law. It is called Senate Bill 1070.

Protest over the law in the United States and Mexico might put federal immigration reform on the pre-election to-do list in Washingon.

If immigration reform were to happen as the Democrats want it to happen, the Arizona law would no longer have teeth because unauthorized immigrants who aren’t lawbreakers would be given a pathway to permanent residency.
