TERRY GREENE STERLING, A BOOK, PHOENIX, IMMIGRANTS, AND A PAPER ROSE
TERRY GREENE STERLING, A BOOK, PHOENIX, IMMIGRANTS, AND A PAPER ROSE

Friends, I am in the middle of the last-minute revisions to my book about undocumented immigrants in Phoenix.

Until I finish in the next ten days or so,  I won’t be able to write much here.

The object below is a toilet paper rose.

If  you can guess, via the comments section below, who generally makes these roses, and where, and why,  you are a very smart person. I dare you!

  1. I have no idea, they are rather festive

  2. It has to do with ….. can anyone guess?

  3. um, Valentine’s Day?

  4. well, usually it doesn’t have anything to do with v-day due to the location where it is generally created……..

  5. I would guess it was made by undocumented workers that clean hotels; after cleaning the bathrooms they put a toilet paper rose in the bathroom.
I first thought perhaps it was made by women in detention by immigration authorities, but I doubt they would have access to red glitter…

  6. Norma, you got it. It was made by women in detention! How did you figure that out?

  7. How did they get the red glitter?

OK…how did I figure it out? Check out the web site for our new book (www.crossingwiththevirgin.com)…Then you’ll know how I figured it out….

  8. Cool looking book. I like the angle and the photos. Mine profiles indocumentados in Maricopa County. About the glitter, that was an extra touch just because it was a gift. The person who made it learned in jail then made me one after she got out. That’s why she had the glitter!

  9. Let me know when your book will be available.. Margaret Regan (of the Tucson Weekly) just published a book about the situation here on the border & hers tells a lot about the Border Patrol, Grupo Beta, minute men etc., as well as about migrants. Ours is only stories about the migrants we have meet who have just crossted. I have really enjoyed Margaret’s book & am looking forward to reading about undocumented in Maricopa Co. Down at the aid station were we see & treat the returnees, we have been seeing some from the Phoenix area. Previously we only saw the people picked up in the desert, but now MANY are people picked up by Arpaio’s group or have been picked up by ICE in other parts of the country & then shipped here for deportation.
I look forward to your book…Norma

  10. I need to get Margaret’s book. Is yours published yet?
